Ubuntu kernel bug when running as VM: soft lockup cpu stuck

My Ubuntu Linux VM run into the following situation:

• responds very slow
• the following messages appears in the console:
  BUG: soft lockup – CPU#0 stuck for 120s!

Found a suggested solution here:
add kernel parameters: "acpi=off noapic"
