Ubuntu 12.04 LTS: create application launcher/shorcut
Run the follow command in Terminal:
gnome-desktop-item-edit ~/Desktop/myshortcut.desktop --create-new
where ~/Desktop/myshortcut.desktop is the launcher file name.
